1. What we collect
Simmonds stores a random install identifier on your device and uses it to associate your lesson history, detected CEFR level, and spaced-repetition progress with your account on our servers. We do not collect your email, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any advertising identifiers. The first name you enter in the welcome screen is sent to our servers when a live lesson starts, solely so the AI tutor can greet you and personalise the session; it is not used for marketing and is not shared beyond the services listed below.
2. Voice in lessons
When you start a live lesson with James, your microphone audio is streamed to our servers so the AI can respond. Audio is processed in real time by OpenAI's Realtime API; short prepared audio clips played to you (words, example sentences, review lines) are pre-generated with Hume's text-to-speech and simply streamed to your device. Live lesson audio is not recorded, but brief diagnostic transcripts may be retained for up to 30 days to debug errors.
3. Third-party services
We use Convex (database), Vercel (API hosting), LiveKit (real-time audio transport), OpenAI (speech-to-speech AI), Hume (text-to-speech generation), and Pexels/Unsplash (royalty-free imagery). Each processes the data described above strictly on our behalf. No data is sold.
4. Your rights
You can request export or deletion of your data at any time by writing to tomas@englisch-lehrer.com. Deletion is performed within 30 days.
5. Children
Simmonds is not directed at children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has used the app, write to us and we will remove their data.
6. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll show an in-app notice before the change takes effect.
